Providence names interim schools chief

June 15, 2011

Susan Lusi will take over the Providence Schools when Superintendent Tom Brady steps down next month. Lusi is currently the superintendent of the Portsmouth School Department but announced her intention to retire earlier this year. Providence officials say she is familiar with their school district, having served as chief of staff from 2001-2003.

“Susan is a great choice and I am confident that she will be an asset to our schools while serving in this important role,” says Providence Mayor Angel Taveras in a written statement announcing the appointment

Providence Superintendent Tom Brady officially steps down on July 15th after three years with the district. Lusi will serve as a temporary replacement while the school board conducts a nation-wide search for a new superintendent.
