Woonsocket school officials call special session on deficit

March 12, 2012

The Woonsocket School Committee is scheduled to consider a corrective action plan today, as the district stares down a $10 million, two-year deficit. The committee is also expected to discuss specific cost-saving measures at a meeting on Wednesday evening.

Woonsocket Teacher’s Guild President Jeffrey Partington says he has seen a draft version of the district’s corrective action plan, which includes seeking payment plans from vendors and instituting a spending freeze on purchasing. Partington says he is expecting school officials to ask teachers to re-open their contract later this week.
