Labor relations board hears Portsmouth hiring case

Portsmouth School officials were at the State Labor Relations Board today, on a case related to teacher hiring and firing. The district asked the Supreme Court to stay the proceeding, but the court yesterday declined to do so.

The Portsmouth School District lost a bid in Superior Court to defend a new hiring system that does not use seniority to determine teacher placements. The judge in that case referred the matter to the Labor Relations Board. School officials have appealed that decision at the State Supreme Court.
