Rhodes Scholars announced

Several students at New England Universities have won Rhodes Scholar honors, including four from Brown University. Brianna Doherty, Nabeel Gillani, David Portiz and Emma LeBlanc of Brown University are among 32 winners selected nationwide.

More than 800 people applied to the program. Rhode Scholars spend a year studying at England’s Oxford University and receive an average of nearly $50,000.

Rhode Island State Treasurer Gina Raimondo is an alum of the program.
