Teachers plan protest for Arne Duncan visit
Federal Education Secretary Arne Duncan may be greeted by protesters when he makes a stop in the Ocean State next month.
A group called the Coalition to Defend Public Education plans to meet Tuesday to discuss protesting the Duncan visit. Organizers say they believe Duncan’s policies are harming public schools.
Duncan has argued for the expansion of successful charter schools and drastic overhauls at troubled schools, like the one underway at Central Falls High School and several Providence schools.
The Secretary is scheduled to hold a town hall meeting in Providence on November 2nd and speak at a dinner hosted by the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council.
