Several West Warwick High School students face drug dealing charges after a sting operation at West Warwick High School.
Police say a young female member of the West Warwick Police Department posed as a high school student for the past six months, befriending several students and eventually convincing the dealers to sell her drugs.
Eight teenagers have been charged with offenses including felony distribution of marijuana to a police officer, marijuana possession and conspiracy to distribute marijuana. Four of the students are over 18 and could face maximum penalties of 20 years in prison.
According to police, the operation began at the urging of school officials, who were concerned by rumors of rampant drug dealing at the high school. Several of the students were arrested during class earlier today, a move that law enforcement officials say was intended as a message for students that drug use and drug dealing will not be tolerated.
