Gone so soon?

Cathy Black has already left her post as head of the New York City school system. The former publishing executive’s appointment was controversial from the start — she had no prior experience in education.

The New York Times calls her departure “a stinging setback” for Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Perhaps Black wanted to make sure she was available for the position opening up in the Providence Public Schools when Supt. Tom Brady steps down later this year. Then again, maybe just a few short months in urban public school reform was enough.
