RISD to go without deans for fine arts, architecture

February 17, 2011

The Rhode Island School of Design will no longer have a dean of fine arts or a dean of architecture. Instead, school officials say they have created a single post for a dean of undergraduate studies. The merging of the two offices is set to take effect this summer.

RISD officials say the change is meant to improve programs and allow more direct support for students and faculty. All 19 academic departments at the school remain unchanged, and school officials say there will be no layoffs as a result of the reorganization.
