Brown posts another record year for applications

January 19, 2011

Brown University says it has received about 31,000 applications for the class of 2015, an increase of 3% compared to last year.

The Ivy League school in Providence expects to admit a freshman class of roughly 1,485 students.

Admissions Dean James Miller says the applicant pool is filled with “remarkable young people of great promise and ability.”

About 67% percent of applicants asked for financial aid. This year’s pool also includes 4,800 international applicants, the highest number in Brown’s history

In both 2008 and 2009 Brown saw 20% increases in applications despite the down economy. School officials say they do expect the increases to taper off due to a dip in the number of school-aged children in New England and around the country.
