Court backs orange stickers, students vow to continue fight

January 7, 2011

The Rhode Island Supreme Court says the town of Narragansett’s policy of putting orange stickers on houses that host laud, raucus parties is constitutional, if unorthodox.

Students say local police are targeting them with the stickers, which some critics compare to the Scarlet Letter.

Police say they are not targeting students, and URI officials say they are working with the community to cut down on noise complaints.

Students say they will continue to fight the stickers in court by challenging the way police are implementing the rule, which does not allow any recourse for residents who feel they have been unfairly stickered.
