Central Falls high school reform continues to draw criticism

November 24, 2010

The effort to turnaround Central Falls High School continues to spark criticism since WRNI first reported that police and some teachers are concerned about discipline problems at the school.

This week The Washington Post says the situation sounds tenuous.

The Providence Journal reports today that school leaders attribute the difficulties to a new approach to discipline, which requires more work from classroom teachers.

District officials have not returned my calls for an explanation of why they removed the police officer from Central Falls High School.

In the meantime, I continue to hear from critics of the turnaround effort, who warn of mismanagement, and supporters who say reports of violence at the school are overstated. Anyone willing to speak on the record?
