Central Falls High School gears up for new school year

August 18, 2010

It’s orientation week for students at Central Falls High School, where administrators threatened to fire the entire faculty last spring under a state-ordered school turnaround plan.

The firings were averted after a deal with teachers union leaders. The agreement adds 25 minutes to the school day and additional time for afterschool meetings and tutoring.

The district also hired two new principals. They say their focus this year will include improving school culture and raising Math scores. Last year just 7% of eleventh graders in Central Falls passed the state test of Math.
