Commissioner issues warning to charter school

State Education Commissioner Deborah Gist has recommended that the Highlander Charter School in Providence receive just a one-year extension due to concerns about low test scores. The popular school in South Providence could be shut down in June 2011. Highlander Charter serves roughly 300 students in Kindergarten-8th grade. Charter schools in Rhode Island typically receive five-year contracts from the state.
