URI basketball player had record in Florida
Police have charged URI freshman Jonathan Holton with being a fugitive from justice after discovering an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Florida. The warrant stemmed from a robbery in Miami.
Campus police say they also found a stolen computer when they searched Holton’s dorm room. He was arrested yesterday for the second time in a week.
The first arrest resulted in charges for distributing videos on Facebook of URI students having sex. Holton’s attorney says his client did not post the videos. He claims the Facebook account was hacked.
Holton, a freshman, was suspended from the URI basketball team after his first arrest, and he’s no longer enrolled at URI. University officials say he had not yet declared a major. He was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All Rookie Basketball Team this year.
