Brown’s new president
Is Christina Hull Paxson, the current dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton.
Paxon, an economist, will assume her duties at Brown on July 1st.
Brown University officials say they spent six months searching for the right person to replace outgoing president Ruth Simmons. Paxson will be the 19th president of Brown.
When asked about her priorities for the university, Paxson said she hopes to expand Brown’s global presence and increase interdisciplinary studies, something that has been a focus for her at Princeton. Paxson’s husband, Ari Gabinet, indicated that he plans to accompany his wife in moving to Providence. Gabinet is executive vice president and general counsel of the New York-based Oppenheimer Funds.
