Providence to name temporary schools chief
The Providence School Board has decided to appoint an interim superintendent while they seek a replacement for Tom Brady. The district says it has a short list and will name the interim hire before Brady steps down on July 15th.
Brady has said he is leaving to pursue other opportunities in education, though some observers have suggested he did not see eye-to-eye with the city’s new Mayor, Angel Taveras, and his top education aide Angela Romans.
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras has asked several prominent community members to begin asking parents and teachers what they are looking for in a new superintendent of schools. School board officials say the appointment of an interim schools chief will help maintain consistency for the 2011-2012 school year.
