Hope students want state to enforce schedule ruling
An attorney for students at Hope High School in Providence has filed a petition with state education officials hoping to speed a return to block scheduling at Hope High.
State Education Commissioner Deborah Gist ruled earlier this week that a new schedule at Hope violated state regulations by reducing common planning time for teachers. Students have also argued that the new schedule is detrimental to the educational program, but the ruling does not address that issue.
Providence school officials say they are preparing to appeal the decision. The students’ attorney, Miriam Weizenbaum, says she filed the petition because the school district has not moved to comply with the commissioner’s decision.
