Providence teachers win grant to study in Egypt
Four Providence high school teachers and eight Roger Williams University faculty members will travel to Egypt next summer for four weeks of study and training. The trip is part of an $85,245 Fulbright-Hays Group Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
The group plans to focus on the history and culture of the Middle East and North Africa. Roger Williams President Roy Nirschel called it “an unprecedented opportunity to revisit assumptions about the region and collaboratively develop new materials and methods to bring back to our students.”
Providence Superintendent Tom Brady said he hopes it will bring new perspectives to the district.
“In our increasingly diverse world and highly diverse city, it is imperative that educators embrace diversity and appreciate a range of historical and cultural perspectives,” he said.
